The quartet gained significant fame with their 1959 album "Time Out," which was groundbreaking for its use of unusual time signatures. The album featured the track "Take Five," composed by Paul Desmond, which became the highest-selling jazz single of all time. "Time Out" was also the first jazz album to sell over one million copies, marking a significant milestone in jazz history. The quartet's innovative approach, combining elements of classical music with jazz, helped to popularize the "third stream" genre, blending European compositional techniques with jazz improvisation.
