Manhattan Transfer
The Manhattan Transfer was an American vocal group founded in 1969 in New York City. Known for their diverse musical style, the group performed a range of genres including a cappella, Brazilian jazz, swing, vocalese, rhythm and blues, pop, and standards. Over their career, they won eleven Grammy Awards.

The group went through several incarnations. The original lineup in the 1960s focused on a cappella and included Tim Hauser, Erin Dickins, Marty Nelson, Pat Rosalia, and Gene Pistilli. In 1972, a new version emerged with Hauser, Alan Paul, Janis Siegel, and Laurel Massé, adopting a more vocal jazz approach. The most commercially successful lineup was formed in 1979 when Cheryl Bentyne replaced Massé after a car accident. This lineup embraced electronic-styled pop, soul, funk, and rhythmic music, achieving significant success in the 1980s.

In the 1990s, the group continued with Hauser, Paul, Siegel, and Bentyne, focusing on cool and smooth jazz. They were accompanied by longtime pianist and music director Yaron Gershovsky, with several rotating touring members. The Manhattan Transfer remained active until 2023, leaving a lasting legacy in the music world.
