Eitan Steinberg
Eitan Steinberg, born on April 21, 1955, in Jerusalem, is a distinguished Israeli composer known for his contributions to concert music. He studied composition at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Italy, and the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned his Ph.D. His mentors included notable composers such as Mark Kopytman, Richard Felciano, Luciano Berio, Peter Maxwell Davies, and Franco Donatoni.

Steinberg's works are performed internationally, including in Israel, Europe, and the United States. He has composed over 20 works specifically for his wife, vocalist Etty Ben-Zaken, with whom he founded the Modalius Ensemble. His compositions often explore a blend of ancient and avant-garde musical strategies, and he has a particular interest in arranging folk songs from Israel's ethnic communities.

Steinberg has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Israel Prime Minister's Composition Award (2007, 2018), the Landau Prize for the Arts (2010), and the ACUM Lifetime Achievement Award (2014). His album "Neharot" reached the Billboard classical albums chart in 2009.

In addition to his work as a composer, Steinberg is an accomplished conductor of contemporary music and serves as a full professor (emeritus) at the University of Haifa's Music Department. His music has been performed by renowned orchestras and ensembles, such as the Israel Philharmonic and the Jerusalem Symphony, and has been recorded by Israeli Radio and BBC Television.
