Dan + Shay
Dan + Shay is an American country music duo consisting of vocalists and songwriters Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney. Originating from Nashville, Tennessee, the duo has been active since 2013 and is signed to Warner Records Nashville. They have released six albums: "Where It All Began," "Obsessed," "Dan + Shay," "Good Things," "Bigger Houses," and "It's Officially Christmas: The Double Album."
Dan Smyers, born on August 16, 1987, in Wexford, Pennsylvania, studied finance at Carnegie Mellon University and played in bands such as Transition and Bonaventure before moving to Nashville to pursue a career in country music. Shay Mooney, born on December 27, 1991, in Natural Dam, Arkansas, was previously a solo artist on T-Pain's Nappy Boy Entertainment label.
The duo met at a house party in Nashville in December 2012 and began writing songs together the next day. Their debut single "19 You + Me" was released in 2013, followed by their debut album "Where It All Began" in 2014. They gained significant success with hits like "Tequila," "Speechless," and "10,000 Hours" featuring Justin Bieber, the latter earning them crossover success in the pop genre.
Dan + Shay have received numerous accolades, including three consecutive Grammy Awards for Best Country Duo/Group Performance from 2019 to 2021. They have also collaborated with artists such as Charlie Puth, Rascal Flatts, Lindsey Stirling, RaeLynn, and Kelly Clarkson. The duo continues to capture audiences with their blend of country and pop influences.
