Savage Garden
Savage Garden were an Australian pop duo formed in Brisbane, Queensland, in 1993, consisting of Darren Hayes on vocals and Daniel Jones on guitar, keyboards, and vocals. Initially, they were part of a covers band called Red Edge, but Hayes and Jones left in 1994 to work as a duo, originally named Crush and later Bliss. They eventually adopted the name Savage Garden, inspired by a phrase from Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles.
The duo achieved international success with hit singles like "I Want You" and "To the Moon and Back" in 1996, "Truly Madly Deeply" in 1997, and "I Knew I Loved You" in 1999. Their debut album, Savage Garden (1997), and its follow-up, Affirmation (1999), both reached No. 1 in Australia and Sweden and were top ten hits in the UK and the US, selling a combined 23 million copies worldwide. Savage Garden won a record ten ARIA Music Awards in 1997, highlighting their significant impact on the music scene.
The group disbanded in 2001, with Darren Hayes pursuing a solo career and Daniel Jones moving into record production before becoming a real estate agent.
