Gerry Marsden
Gerard Marsden MBE (24 September 1942 – 3 January 2021) was an influential English singer-songwriter and television personality, renowned as the frontman of the Merseybeat band Gerry and the Pacemakers. Born in Toxteth, Liverpool, Marsden developed an early passion for music, which he pursued alongside his brother Freddie in their band. Managed by Brian Epstein and produced by George Martin, Gerry and the Pacemakers became the first act to have their debut three singles reach number one on the UK charts, with hits like "How Do You Do It?", "I Like It", and "You'll Never Walk Alone."

The band was pivotal in the Merseybeat movement, and their song "You'll Never Walk Alone" became an anthem for Liverpool Football Club. They also starred in the musical film "Ferry Cross the Mersey," further cementing Marsden's status as a local hero. After the band disbanded in 1966, Marsden continued his career in television and theater, notably appearing in the West End musical "Charlie Girl."

Marsden was also known for his charitable efforts, particularly re-recording "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "Ferry Cross the Mersey" to support victims of the Bradford City stadium fire and the Hillsborough disaster. He was awarded an MBE in 2003 for his services to charity. Marsden passed away in 2021, leaving behind a legacy of music and philanthropy.
