Sonny Curtis (May 9, 1937 – September 19, 2025) was an influential American singer and songwriter, renowned for his work in rock and roll, country, and pop music. Born in Meadow, Texas, Curtis grew up in a musical family and learned guitar from his uncles, who were bluegrass musicians. He began his career as a guitarist, playing on Buddy Holly's early recordings and opening for Elvis Presley with Holly in the mid-1950s.

Curtis joined The Crickets shortly before Buddy Holly's death in 1959 and became the band's lead vocalist and guitarist. He is celebrated for writing several iconic songs, including "I Fought the Law," famously covered by the Bobby Fuller Four and later by The Clash and Green Day; "Love Is All Around," the theme song for "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"; "More Than I Can Say," a hit for Leo Sayer; and "I'm No Stranger to the Rain," a #1 country hit for Keith Whitley.

Throughout his career, Curtis was a member of three music Halls of Fame, including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He continued to perform and record with The Crickets and as a solo artist for several decades, contributing significantly to the music landscape until his passing in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 88.
