Smokey Robinson
William "Smokey" Robinson Jr., born on February 19, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, is an influential American R&B and soul singer, songwriter, and record producer. Known as the "King of Motown," Robinson founded the iconic vocal group The Miracles, serving as their frontman, chief songwriter, and producer. The group, initially named the Five Chimes, was formed in 1955 and later became The Miracles, achieving significant success with hits like "Shop Around" and "You Really Got a Hold on Me." Robinson's collaboration with Motown Records' founder Berry Gordy Jr. was pivotal in the label's success.

In 1972, Robinson left The Miracles to focus on his role as vice president of Motown Records, a position he held until he departed the label in 1999. He launched a successful solo career, earning numerous accolades, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize in 2016. He is also a double Hollywood Walk of Fame inductee.

Robinson's personal life includes marriages to Claudette Rogers from 1959 to 1986 and Frances Gladney since 2002. He has three children: Berry, Tamla, and Trey. His legacy is marked by his extensive songwriting credits, with over 4,000 songs and 37 Top 40 hits. However, in 2025, Robinson faced serious allegations of sexual assault, which he and his attorney have denied, and the investigation is ongoing.
