Baccara
Baccara was a Spanish dance-pop duo that became one of the most popular acts in the late 1970s. The group was formed by Mayte Mateos, born on February 7, 1951, in Logroño, La Rioja, Spain, and María Mendiola, born on April 4, 1952, in Madrid, Spain. Initially meeting as members of the Spanish TV's Ballet Company, the duo decided to pursue a music career together, performing flamenco and traditional Spanish songs in cabarets.

Their breakthrough came in 1977 with the hit single "Yes, Sir, I Can Boogie," which topped the charts in over 18 countries and sold more than 16 million copies, earning them a place in the "Guinness Book of Records" as the female group with the best-selling records. Their debut album, "Baccara," released the same year, included hits like "Sorry, I'm a Lady." In 1978, they represented Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest with "Parlez-Vous Français?" achieving seventh place.

Baccara's music was characterized by a blend of pop and disco, sung in English with a distinctive Spanish accent. Over their career, they sold over 40 million records and received numerous gold, platinum, and diamond awards, including the prestigious "Golden Bambi."

After an artistic break, María Mendiola returned to the music scene in 1999 with a new partner, Maryse Peres, and released the album "Made in Spain." In 2010, Christina Sevilla joined María Mendiola, and they continued to release music, including the album "I Belong to Your Heart" in 2017. María Mendiola passed away in September 2021, but Christina Sevilla, alongside Helen de Quiroga, continues to honor her legacy by performing as Baccara.
